Some writers receive their calling in childhood, and chart their course from there. I received mine at a somewhat more inconvenient life stage: in my first year of medical school.
Growing up, reading and writing fiction had always been my first love. My second just happened to be performing dissections in biology class. Creative pursuits took a back seat when I discovered science and began charting a path to a career in medicine.
But not long after starting med school my childhood fascination with books came flooding back to me. I was on my way to becoming a doctor…but I also loved to write. Was there a way to do both?
I didn’t drop out of med school–despite being frequently tempted–but, instead, started writing in my spare time. Throughout my years as a med student, a resident, and a practicing physician I continued writing. I fantasized about being published someday, and I called myself a writer (although mostly in secret).
Eventually, after many years, my dreams of being published came true. I am now an author, a doctor, and a mom.
My first novel , A BEAUTIFUL HEIST, was published in June 2013 by Kensington, and the sequels were released in June 2014, and June 2015.
My YA debut, GAME OF SECRETS, will be published in February 2018 by Sky Pony/Skyhorse Publishing in NYC.
