New Book Deal Announcement! (and how a story goes from idea to signed book contract)

So this happened: That’s right, I have a new book deal! This book will be my YA debut, and the hardcover will be hitting shelves in Fall 2017. Here’s how this story happened: While I was on contract with Kensington and busily writing my three AB&T books, a germ of an idea occurred to me. First, you have to understand that I’m a big lover of all things Great Britain.… Read the rest

One Month To Go…

It seems like I only just launched my first novel…and now it’s almost time for my second one to be released! I’m about a month away from sending A MAGNIFICENT CRIME (Agency of Burglary & Theft #2) out into the world. The official release date is June 5, 2014. Just in time for summer beach reading, yes? I’ve been busy getting organized for my virtual book tour (a.k.a. … Read the rest

Hack Your Body Clock: How To Become A Morning Person

I haven’t always been a morning person. But when various factors collided (specifically, getting a book contract to produce three novels in three years, coupled with the fact that quitting my day job was not an option…mostly because my children had grown rather accustomed to eating food on a regular basis) I had to come up with a new plan.… Read the rest

2013 Rewind

Reviewing the highlights of my year has become an annual tradition for me (like many of you), so here goes. When I think back on 2013, this is what stands out for me: My first novel was published! *happy dance* I finished writing my second novel. (And it’s all set for release in June 2014.) I had the privilege of spending another year blogging for Erica Ehm’s fabulous Yummy Mummy Club.Read the rest

Fun With Book Marketing

So I’m about six weeks away from the release of my debut novel, A Beautiful Heist, and I’m wading deeply into promotional waters. This is something I know NOTHING about. I have a medical degree, for crying out loud. And I have spent the last several years learning about, and practicing, the craft of writing. Not marketing. But, as with many things, the information is out there to be had.… Read the rest

The Road To Publication: Book Blurbs, Covers, and Pre-Orders.

A few weeks ago my editor sent me the little blurb the marketing department at Kensington created for my novel. How fun is that? This is the copy that will appear on retail sites for its release as an ebook. When it’s printed, this will be the cover blurb. I must admit, it gives me a delighted shiver to know that a marketing department is actually putting time and effort into this.… Read the rest

2012 Rewind: A Year For The Books

I might be a little late to this, reviewing my year. But the holidays were such a mad frenzy of activity, I find that only now am I able to sit and reflect. And I admit I was going to skip doing a 2012 review post, until I started thinking about what a truly kick-ass year 2012 was. So, better late than never, these were the highlights of 2012 for me: I started running, and ran my first official 5K.… Read the rest

Judging A Book By Its Cover

As we speak, my editor at Kensington is working with his art department to come up with a fab cover for my first novel. But before he did that, he asked me if I had any thoughts on the design of the cover. Which came as a wonderful surprise. (And so much fun, I can’t even describe.) Being a newbie, I figured cover design was exclusively the domain of the people at the publishing house and they wouldn’t be particularly interested in my input.… Read the rest

The Call

So last week, I got “the call”. The ones that all writers fantasize about. My agent, Sandy Lu, called me on my cell phone to say that Kensington Books wanted to publish my novel! They were making an offer. A 3-book deal, to be specific (yes…we are most firmly in dream territory now…) Then, briefly, back to earth: it’s for e-book originals, to start.… Read the rest
