New Book Deal Announcement! (and how a story goes from idea to signed book contract)

So this happened: That’s right, I have a new book deal! This book will be my YA debut, and the hardcover will be hitting shelves in Fall 2017. Here’s how this story happened: While I was on contract with Kensington and busily writing my three AB&T books, a germ of an idea occurred to me. First, you have to understand that I’m a big lover of all things Great Britain.… Read the rest

One Month To Go…

It seems like I only just launched my first novel…and now it’s almost time for my second one to be released! I’m about a month away from sending A MAGNIFICENT CRIME (Agency of Burglary & Theft #2) out into the world. The official release date is June 5, 2014. Just in time for summer beach reading, yes? I’ve been busy getting organized for my virtual book tour (a.k.a. … Read the rest

A Magnificent Crime on Pinterest

I don’t keep it much of a secret how deeply I love Pinterest. One of my favorite ways to use Pinterest, as an author, is to create a board for each of my books. Recently I’ve been tweaking the board for my next novel, A Magnificent Crime (the sequel to A Beautiful Heist). Basically, it’s a collection of various images that convey the feel and the flavor of the book…plus a few itty-bitty hints about the setting and the story.… Read the rest

The Magic Of The Surrey International Writers’ Conference

Last weekend I attended my all-time favorite writing conference, the Surrey International Writers’ Conference. I’ve been going to this conference almost every year since 2004, and it’s always a slice of heaven for me. Here’s my attempt to sum up all the reasons I love SIWC. Before SIWC, I was a closet writer (this is literally true—in my first condo I converted a closet into a writing “office”).… Read the rest

Casting Call for A Beautiful Heist

As far as I can tell, virtually all writers do this–fantasize about which actors and actresses would be cast in the movie version of their books. This exercise is equal parts creative-juice-stimulator (helps to visualize an actual person when writing scenes), motivator to help push you forward (sigh…someday when I’m attending the premiere…), and pure fun. So…who would play the main roles in A Beautiful Heist?… Read the rest

A Beautiful Heist On Pinterest

I started playing around on Pinterest about a year ago and, like many people, immediately fell down the rabbit hole. Pinterest is even more habit-forming than movie popcorn and peanut M&Ms. (Yes, together. Have you tried? Ridiculous.) One of my fellow bloggers at YMC coined the hashtag #pintervention and sometimes, I seriously think that might be warranted. But today, I am giving this little addiction free rein!… Read the rest

Masquerade Parties

In my novel a pivotal scene happens at a masquerade party. I love these, and–naturally–a masquerade is a fabulous milieu for a thief. Here’s a teeny excerpt from the masquerade scene in A Beautiful Heist: I surveyed the room full of strangers. Well, I was assuming they were strangers, but of course I couldn’t be certain because of the masks.… Read the rest

Wise Words

It’s Sunday…AND it’s Mother’s Day. So, let’s all sleep in and have a lazy day with coffee and the newspaper, shall we? I’m going to keep it simple with today’s countdown post. Just a little something to think about. (And maybe a little something for my fellow Pinterest addicts?) Read the rest

Coffee & Writing

A while ago I wrote a post about the perfect food pairings for a writing life. But I’d like to expand on that and talk about something near and dear to my little heart: the brown gold otherwise known as coffee. To my mind, coffee is the perfect desk accessory when you’re writing. Allow me to make my case? (Or, indulge me as I wax about my love…) Coffee is warm, cozy, and comforting.… Read the rest
